Why is it so hard for us to help the heroes?
Why is it so easy to feel we can save the world ironically?
The global climate appears to be deteriorating as fast as some of the scarier climate projections from a while ago indicated they would. There are obviously significant trends and events and an undeniably negative trajectory for a number of things. Even accounting for the fact that it’s all being reported in a hyper-sensationalistic media ecosystem: shit looks bad. We obviously need to be doing more.
IPCC issues 'bleakest warning yet' on impacts of climate breakdown
Climate breakdown is accelerating rapidly, many of the impacts will be more severe than predicted and there is only a…
The biggest and most powerful systems of civilizational organization we have available to us are floundering at the scope and magnitude of these catastrophic events. The UN. The Megacorporations. The Superpowers. Hollywood. Trillions of dollars spent and so much of it only makes things worse.
Why the fuck is Greta Thunberg still so alone in her weekly pictures?
How has Greta Thunberg failed to convince you to fundamentally reshape society in significant and beneficial ways? Or is it that she has and you just don’t know what to do? The answer is complicated so we need to simplify it.
The answer is more. The answer is more than you can do alone. The answer is more important than your job. The answer is more important than your happiness and comfort in this moment. The answer is more important than a lot of stuff whose importance you’ve bought into because of clever marketing efforts and social phenomena.
You can see it if you look for it: things are getting worse. You feel worse. That will keep getting worse until things stabilize or get better. If we don’t change things won’t stabilize until a lot of unsustainable stuff bottoms out. I’m not the one saying this. This is all over a bunch of our media. Just because it’s not all media doesn’t mean you should ignore it.
The amount of money in the world is not representative of the health of the world because money isn’t a real thing.
It sucks, right?
We have to open up to giving up some of what we have to protect what we’re able to protect while we work collaboratively to change as much as we need to in order to not have to fight like this against our world ever again. We will grow with our planet or it will destroy us and try again. This has to get solved because it’s not sustainable. It has to be done. Someone has to do it and no one can do it alone so everyone has to do it together. It’s not a competition. It’s the opposite of a competition so everyone can win.
None of the corporations will win. None of the superpowers will win. No one can win the world unless everyone wins the world, but all of those massive entities are playing a game where they’re trying to win the world and they’re carrying us along for the ride. We let them. We enable them. You can call them titans or you can call them gods but they are the dominant lifeforms on our planet — they’re just a different kind of life — and they’re powered by us.
They’re powered by people. Nations do not harm us. The people who enforce the power of the nation in harmful ways harm us. Corporations do not harm us. The people who make harmful decisions and are employed by corporations harm us. Religions do not harm us. The people who use the power structure of the religion in ways that are harmful to us harm us.
Ideas are real in their own way
Ideas can’t hurt us but we can use them to hurt ourselves and that’s terrifying. It’s hard to think about stuff this big. That doesn’t matter — you have to. You have to! It’s happening to you. We have to look into the space of ideas to understand what’s happening and what can be done about it because so much of what we see is going terribly wrong.
Obviously the fact that I’m unofficial Wizard of Canada is a very silly and ridiculous thing but actually I’m the unofficial Wizard of Canada so you can trust me on this. We need to look at things differently because things aren’t what we see when we look at them.
If we were actually seeing reality Greta Thunberg wouldn’t only have 18 people in the photo of her 184th week of climate strike.
I wrote a poem intended to inspire a massive global shift in consciousness towards a healthier future for everyone:
I also turned each stanza of the poem into an NFT. Any money I make selling/reselling these NFTS will be donated to Greta Thunbergs foundation:
Thanks for reading. Help the heroes. If you don’t know where to help put all of your available energy and effort into supporting Greta Thunberg. What she represents can stand taller than the megacorporations and the superpowers and all she needs to manifest it is your help.
